The four of us begin Sunday with a walk into the Botanical Gardens feeling a bit peckish we stop off for breakfast; the most enormous plate of food and a couple of hours later and we’re on our way again! [Is this going to be the rhythm for the next 3 weeks?]
It’s very lively in the Gardens as it is the Garden’s Autumn Vibes festival; there’s plenty of live music, food and local stalls; we soak up the atmosphere for an hour or so and then wander around the sites with Sue & David before finding a pub in The Rocks and some shopping in the local market.
Because it was raining when we first arrived in Sydney we didn’t get off the ferry to Manly so on Monday we joined Sue & David for a trip to Manly. Greg our Peek Tour guide told us that Manly Cove was named by Capt. Arthur Phillip because of the indigenous peoples confidence and manly behaviour! Manly had a very British feel to it lots of fish ‘n’ chip and ice cream shops along with tourist shops selling key rings, hats and Tee shirts. Thankfully the young women on their Hen parties were missing!
Our last day in Sydney ended with a morning walk across the Harbour Bridge, an evening meal at the Tower and night time trip to the Sydney Observatory.
Tomorrow we begin our road trip to Cairns; first stop Kempsey…..
