On arriving in Nelson Bay we could have been forgiven for thinking that we had just walked onto the set of Jaws ~ hundreds of people lined the dockside and they were cheering & clapping, cameras flashing; it was in fact a Game Fishing competition and the fishermen in their boats were lining up their catch and we’re not talking tadpoles.
Sunday couldn’t have been more different as we boarded a local sailing boat in search of dolphins. Although, after examining the photos you might be forgiven for thinking otherwise, there were quite a few dolphins about and near to the boat. It’s just that Matthew couldn’t connect camera with dolphins. The crew on the boat seemed quite genuine and tried not to intrude on the dolphins preferring to hang around and wait for them to come to the boat. They were photographing the fins of the dolphins as we went along to identify the family members with their records. We’d been a bit sceptical but they seemed a top notch crew who put the dolphins first [Imagine Cruises, Port Nelson].
Following lunch on the harbour side we spent the rest of the afternoon visiting local bays.
Tomorrow we head into the Hunter Valley for five days; wine, cheese and chocolate tours beckoning……
