with no land in sight Marine World had the feel of a space station with the Reef Magic boat docking alongside for the day and all of us floating around the coral

Since touching down in Melbourne we had been looking forward visiting the Great Barrier Reef and we weren’t disappointed. There are lots of cruises to choose from and we opted to take our excursion with Reef Magic Cruises who operate day trips direct from Cairns to their Marine World activity platform, which is located on the outer Great Barrier Reef.

We had a fantastic day, which included a trip out on a semi submersible and snorkeling around the reef. The reef is home to over 1500 different species of tropical fish; we saw Angel, Cardinal, Butterfly, Clown and Parrot fish to name a few. Our greatest delight was to see a Maori Wrasse, which is the largest fish found on the reef; this particular Wrasse, named ‘Wally’ by the team on board is very friendly, he was happy to swim with us and pose for photos!
